Birthdays are important celebrations for persons especially in high positions. That is why when I became City Mayor I had bigger natal day receptions to cater to city employees, barangay captains, friends and guests.
People are expecting you to celebrate with your constituents so I have to share with them the graces I received as thanksgiving.
Right after the elections on May 24, 2007, I had my 44th birthday and blowout at the covered court of Barangay Cabulihan which gave my biggest winning margin as city mayor over my opponent. The thanksgiving mass was officiated by Rev. Fr. Samuel Papa, the parish priest of Guadalupe.
People from the neighboring places came. The vice mayors from different municipalities of the province were also present. I was the outgoing president of the Vice Mayors League of the Philippines Southern Leyte Council. Newly reelected Congressman Roger Mercado was there and also Governor-elect Damian Mercado. My supporters and relatives also attended the double celebration.
My 45th birthday was celebrated on May 24, 2008 at City Forest Park at Sitio Danao, Malapoc Norte. The thanksgiving mass was officiated by Rev. Fr. Antonio Gaviola and Rev. Fr. Papa. We conducted tree planting at the forest. The party was held the Pavilion of the forest park.
City Forest Park was the same venue for the 46th birthday celebration on May 24, 2009. The city engineering employees held a maƱanita early dawn. The holy mass was officiated by Rev. Fr. Maximo Casinao at the Pavilion. We had tree planting, unveiling of Camp Danao marker and launching of mascot Kwaky (the bat) for the 7th BSP National Rover Moot and One Visayas Jamboree which will be held on October.
The barangay captains brought one fighting cock each. We conducted a "karambola" in which all roosters with blades on their feet were released together in the especially made arena. The last remaining live cock came out the winner and given a cash prize. We ate all the rest as grilled chicken.

I had a party with the dumpsite residents and eco aides at Combado where I prepared lechon and pack lunch. Then the City Council and heads of office gave me a surprise party at Jardin de Pasay together with Congressman-elect Mian Mercado and Governor-elect Roger Mercado.
